Location – 5/5
We visited Maramec Spring Park as part of a non-school sponsored gathering as COVID had prevented everyone from seeing each other for almost 7 months. The quarantine afterwards was almost worth it so the kids could finally play with other humans. Maramec Spring Park is located in St. James, MO and right off Highway 44.
Campground – 4/5
The campground we stayed at was a big loop with a large open area in the middle. This area feels like it was meant for large groups, so we give it high marks for that. If you were going by yourself, there’s no level of privacy at all because you’re all in the same area. We stayed at site 24. The ground was covered with leaves and was mostly dirt and soft enough for hammering in stakes. Each site was large and there were enough trees to hang a hammock.
Activities – 2/5
Nature, Fishing
There’s not a lot of activities to do, so luckily we had the kids playing all together to keep themselves entertained. We drove over to the Spring and spent a few hours there feeding the fish. There is a restaurant that serves breakfast (we did not go) and a fishing area as well.
Hiking – 1/5
The riverwalk was really the only hiking available that we could find. It was just under 2 miles out and back.
Amenities – 4/5
Bathrooms
The bathrooms were in a concrete structure by the campsite. They had flush toilets. The showers were up by the main entrance in another concrete structure. There was nothing really special about the bathrooms, but they did the job.
Firewood and Shopping
There was a small camp shop right up by the entrance. It had necessities and firewood for sale. It was $4 a bundle. They had most anything you may need including hot hands.
Overall Rating – 3/5
We didn’t get a lot of pictures of this one as we spent most time just relaxing and letting the kids play. Overall we give this site 3 out of 5. We will definitely go back with a large school group again, but I think we’d pass for a family camping trip.
